Nvidia Finally Speaks Out About Mantle: No Real Benefit and We Won't Support It

It looks like Nvidia has finally spoken officially most Mantle. And turns out that they think that Curtain is basically useless (for Geforce GPUs) and there is no sense in supporting it. This is probably one of the most painstakingly obvious PR reports I am going to make. There was just no way Nvidia would cease up supporting Mantle, regardless of the fact whether Mantle could or could not have been of use to them. The sheer rivalry and competitive nature of their relationship just would not take permitted this to happen.

NVIDIA DirectX 11 API Advancements GeForce 337.50 BETA Nvidia'due south "Wonder Drivers"

Nvidia'due south Official Stance on Drape: Hasn't Happened, Wont Happen and Not Needed

The actual PR statement was made on a Podcast at MaximumPC and the transcript has been taken from DSOGaming.com. Before nosotros begin lets take a look at that they said, here is the beginning para:

"We don't know much nigh Drape, we are not part of Drape. And clearly if they see value at that place they should go for it. And if they can convince game developers to go for information technology, get for information technology. It's not an Nvidia thing. The key affair is to develop bang-up technologies that evangelize benefits to gamers. Now in the example of Mantle it'south not then clear to me that in that location is a lot of obvious benefits in that location." - Tom Petersen & Rev Lebaradian.

Basically Nvidia stated that if you take a await at their recent commuter updates you will notice almost no functioning difference between the new drivers and Mantle API in configurations that matter which is possibly a reference to the fact that extreme amounts of CPU Overhead is rare (e.g: coupling an i3 with a GTX 780 Ti SLI). They are of course referring to the wonder drivers that matched Pall's operation increases on the DX11 (something I released criticism on too) which was quite an accomplishment. The problem is that, well-nigh every other game is optimized differently so it becomes very difficult to distinguish between an API's Low Level Optimization and but apparently old driver optimization. The stop result is that the boxing becomes blurred and the stage remains unchanged.

"Information technology's possible to pull performance out of DirectX, we're approving that, and so you can argue that peradventure information technology's not a adept thought to put extra effort into yet another API that does the same thing substantially. Characteristic wise there is nil more." - Rev Lebaradian

"DX12 is coming and a lot of the features, the benefits of having a lower level API (the extra calls and stuff), it'due south going to be in DX12." - Tom Petersen

Nvidia of course mentions the same argument, that there is functioning still unearthed in the DX11 API and finally raises the end game that annihilation Drape gives, DX12 volition besides, so they won't conform it. Rationally speaking there was only no manner Nvidia was going to adapt Mantle, not with DX12 providing the same level of Low Level optimization at whatever rate. The thing is, while I savour the competition between both Red and Greenish, corporate ego is undeniably there. And that is something that will never change. I am pretty sure AMD volition never adapt Thou-Sync (AMD is currently working on Free Sync) and its not because its expensive (B2B transactions don't piece of work this way) but at that place is cypher wrong with that. Because at the end of the road, information technology is this fierce rivalry betwixt companies that gets us gamers and enthusiasts true innovation.
